Summary
The doctor told me that I have a high pain threshold, as the condition my ankle was in before surgery should have caused a lot of pain.
Since the surgery, I have learned to walk properly again, with the right foot at a normal angle. I can wear regular shoes again. I had to wear high tops and boots before the surgery, due to the swelling and misshapen ankle joint before the surgery. I have had numbness and tingling at the ball of foot and toes occasionally but the surgeon says this is nothing to worry about. It is not a big problem, especially compared to the problems I had prior to surgery. I found some information on the web, about ankle fusions, mainly caused by car accidents etc. and not from general deterioration, so I wanted to tell my story. When my wife and I go shopping, she now has to tell me to 'slow down' as I can walk fast and she has trouble keeping up! I am very glad that I decided to have the surgery done. |
